I have a question about mouthpieces. I have mostly always played on a Selmer C* 80 but someone gave me an Otto Link Tone Edge mouthpiece to try (facing number 6*) Now I understand that this Otto Link mouthpiece has a bigger opening between the tip of the reed and tip of the mouthpiece which is suppose to generate a bigger "jazzier" sound. Can someone give me their opinion of mouthpieces with the bigger openings and more advantages and disadvantages of using these.

Thanks.

larger openings means air flows through the mp with less restriction, giving it a jazzier sound, likewise smaller openings are more classical

There is a lot more to finding a great mouthpiece than it's tip size.
While picking a piece you need to keep in mind what sound do you wish to produce.
The effect the chamber of the mouthpiece will have on your air flow
and what is your application going to be.
You don't want a small chamber wide tip for chamber work.
unless the names of the group is the glass cutters.
In the same boat you don't want a small tip huge chamber for work with a Tejano band either.
The other thing to keep in mind is you really don't know what you sound like,
so take a friend to listen to you on different mouthpieces or your teacher.
there is reason most teacher like the Selmer C*it is a very good
mouthpiece for most players
