Hey Doc,
As you know, your advice has been invaluable to me & my students. Quick question, that I probably already know the answer I am going to hear, but thought I'd double check.
Was playing in church, a huge variety of Christmas gigs, Bb, C a little picc. My wife was playing all the piano stuff, our 2 1/2 yr old daughter likes to hang out with Mom & Dad when they are up playing. I asked my daughter to grab my C & I would trade her my Bb, she had been watching & emulating how I hold it and play etc.
I start playing the next song & I am thinking, this is totally different, the balance was way different, but in a good way...a lot more like my Bb which just floats.
When I had the chance I looked down & she had put my Bb Mthpce in my C horn. As you advise, have the same mthpce. but try drilling it out for the C.
I loved the response of the C with the standard 24 throat...listened back to some of the recordings & noticed a lightness &/or presence that sounded different, and I really like.
So let me guess, if you like it & it sounds good, stick with it & use the drilled out one for Cat-fishing..? am I on the right trail?
Thanks for eveything, as always.

yes, you do know... of course. there is no "golden key" or magic bullet. use what works.
that bigger hole in the C mthpce is a good idea for many people, and for many situations, but you also know that Jim Reed, one of the finest trumpet minds I know of, uses a "normal" mthpce on everything and you will not find a bigger or better trumpet sound anywhere. So there you go.
follow your instincts.. and finally, it's only a mouthpiece, right? seriously, the mind exponentially overcomes any of that 24 vs 27 difference. _________________ Karl Sievers, DMA.
