Hi Dr,
The deposit is payed and on 13th of April I will be walking out a music shop with my first Bb Bach. What is the difference in the bell numbers? I'm planning on not looking and just picking the one I like. Any advice on testing would be welcome, perhaps I'll take my Getchell as with these any variations are due to the horn not my competency as I have these well under my control.
Thanks once again, this forum has been invaluable in my playing over the last few years.

if you want to chat about vendors please do it via PM's. When I've tried to give kudos to great dealers some other dealer complained.. oh well....
so we'll stay away from that in public anyway.
as for the new horn - smart move - just play several and take home the one that likes you. worry about the number on the bell later, and then don't worry about it - ! _________________ Karl Sievers, DMA. Will Do,
I'm glad you used the words 'the one that likes you'. I like the idea that there is a horn waiting for me.

when I wrote that I was thinking of what happens when you get a puppy...
maybe the same thing only slightly less messy.. _________________ Karl Sievers, DMA. Professor, School of Music, University of Oklahoma; Principal Trumpet, Oklahoma City Philharmonic; Bach Artist/Clinician; General Manager, National Trumpet Competition |

Brought my new puppy home today. Spent over 2 ours in the store. I asked the assistant to put out a range of Bach horns but not tell me which is which. Back at the hotel I found I had a ML180S 43.
Having too much fun to write any more, thanks again

That's great news Jeromy.
I've just got to say that a few weeks ago i went along with a young lad (a student of my first teacher) to help pick out a new horn in London. When I got to the shop he had some Bach trumpets and some other brands out ready to play.
It took just a few seconds and everyones faces in the shop to eliminate the other "big brand". The difference between them was night and day!
I've got to say that all the Bach strads I played were just wonderful. They sounded great! and felt so good to play.
I may need to buy a new one myself now :-)

Long ago when I was in college, I spent about a semester looking for the right horn. It turned out to be a Mt. Vernon lightweight that played lightyears beyond anything else I tried. When it was stolen 30 years later, I played a lot of bachs trying to find one that worked for me. The one I settled on was a model 43, standard weight. I've loved it ever since. I really think the 43 bell makes for a superior instrument. Enjoy!!! I applaud your choice. _________________ Tom W.

I agree Tom, I have 37's and 43 bells and both are great. That being said, I have always felt that the 43 is for me, the right and more versatile bell.
Some describe it as bright, but it blends just fine, and it has what I think of as a bit more "opulent" character to it. Just my opinion. _________________ Tom
